GENERAL PROVISIONS

The American Saddle Horse Breeders Futurity of Illinois will be shown each year in 3 divisions.

All foals must be the produce of stallions and mares who are being nominated in the American Saddle Horse Breeders Futurity of Illinois.  THE FUTURITY IS FOR ALL FOALS REGISTERED WITH THE AMERICAN SADDLE HORSE REGISTRY.

 

The use of artificial appliances or devices on weanlings and yearlings such as (but not limited to) chains, shackles, rubber bands, blindfolds or blinkers are prohibited on the grounds before or during the show.  Blinker hoods with half cups mounted in the vertical position so as to allow forward vision are allowed to be used on yearlings.  Smooth round leather straps are allowed.

 

The use of curb bits on weanlings and yearlings are prohibited.  Weanlings and yearlings must show with uncut, unset tails; tail sets and bustles worn on the show grounds or in preparation for the show are forbidden.  Bustles are permitted on yearlings.

 

Only two people per animal are permitted in the ring.  Handlers and attendants must be neatly and appropriately dressed in clean and well fitted clothes.  Each may carry or use a whip not exceeding 6' in length including lash; the lash shall not have been altered in any way.  It must be a standard whip of suitable style.  No paper or plastic bags are allowed in the ring.

 

NOMINATION OF SIRE:  To nominate a Stallion in the Futurity, it is necessary:

              1)   That the Stallion be registered with the American Saddlebred Registry, Inc. and

              2)   That a fee of $50.00 be paid to the Futurity on or before July 1, 2020, of the year the foal is nominated.

 

NOMINATION OF DAM:  To nominate a Mare in the Futurity it is necessary:

              1)   That the Mare be registered with the American Saddlebred Registry, Inc. and

              2)   That a fee of $10.00 be paid to the Futurity on or before July 1, 2020, of the year in which the foal is to be eligible  for  the Weanling Division of the Futurity.

 

WEANLING DIVISION:  In order to make a foal eligible to show in the Weanling Division of the Futurity, the following conditions must be complied with:

              1)   The sire and dam must be nominated in the Futurity the year in which the foal is born.

              2)   The foal must be registered before it can be shown, and IN ANY EVENT BEFORE JANUARY 1st FOLLOWING BIRTH.

              3)   $50.00 must be paid to the Futurity on or before July 1, 2020, of the year the foal was born.

 

              HOW SHOWN:  The entries in this Division shall be shown in hand in four (4) classes - 1) Open Weanling Filly, 2) Open Weanling Colt, 3) Open Weanling Championship (only the first five places in the Open Filly and Colt classes are eligible to show back in the Open Weanling Championship class), and 4) Amateur Weanling/Championship (shown as one class).

 

YEARLING DIVISION:  In order to make a colt, filly or gelding eligible to show in the Yearling Division of the Futurity, the following conditions must be complied with:

              1)  The colt, filly, or gelding must have been previously nominated in the Weanling Division of this Futurity and all conditions and requirements of that division must have been fulfilled.

              2)  $50.00 must be paid to the Futurity on or before July 1, 2020, of the year following the nomination becomes a yearling.

 

              HOW SHOWN:   The entries in this Division shall be shown the same as in the Weanling Division.

 

TWO-YEAR OLD DIVISION:  In order to make a colt, filly, or gelding eligible to show in the Two-Year Old Division of the Futurity, the following conditions must be complied with:

              1)   The colt, filly or gelding must have been previously nominated in the Weanling and Yearling Divisions of the Futurity and all conditions and requirements of those Divisions must have been fulfilled.

              2)   $50.00 must be paid to the Futurity on or before July 1, 2020,  of the year the nomination becomes a two-year old.

 

              HOW SHOWN:  1) THIS YEAR WE HAVE REINSTATED THE AMATEUR TWO-YEAR OLD IN-HAND CLASS; AND 2) The open class for this  Division shall be shown in the ASHB Futurity Two-Year Old Open Driving Class.  The driving horse may be shown to either a two-wheel or four-wheel cart.  Set tails are optional.



PRIZES

 

The value of the Prize Fund of the Futurity each year shall be the total amount of money paid in fees, miscellaneous funds and added donations.  From the total prize fund, $300.00 is deducted for awards to nominators of the sires and dams of each Champion foal (open and amateur).   The nominator of the sire and dam of the Champion foals in the Weanling Division shall each receive $50.00.  The nominator of the sire and dam of the Reserve foals in the Weanling Division shall each receive $25.00.  Additionally, $2,000.00 will be deducted and added to the prize money for the Two-Year Old Open Driving Class. The balance of the prize fund shall be divided equally among the Weanling, Yearling and Two-Year Old In Hand classes.

 

In the Weanling Division, Yearling Division and the Amateur Two-Year Old In Hand classes, the prize fund shall be divided equally between the colt, filly and championship classes.  In each of the above mentioned classes, the winners will receive 1st - 30%; 2nd - 25%; 3rd - 15%; 4th - 10%; 5th - 9%; 6th - 6%; 7th - 3%; 8th - 3%.  In the Two-Year Old driving class, prizes will be distributed as described:  1st - 35%; 2nd - 25%; 3rd - 15%; 4th - 10%; 5th - 8%; 6th - 7%.

 

FEES

 

All payments to the Futurity must be made to the Secretary-Treasurer of the American Saddle Horse Breeders Futurity of Illinois FOR THIS YEAR ONLY, ON OR BEFORE JULY 1, 2020.  Late nominations are not permitted.  Each nominator must pay a membership fee of $25.00.  This money shall be used to defray the administrative cost of the Futurity.  All membership fees must be paid by the nominator and/or owner.

 

LIABILITY

 

LIABILITY - No nomination is liable for more than the amount paid.  THERE WILL BE NO RETURN OF A PAYMENT ONCE IT HAS BEEN RECEIVED.  The right is reserved to reject any nomination and to debar any nomination from competition for failure to comply with the conditions of the Futurity.  Management assumes no responsibility to remind nominators of payments due.  Keep a copy of the above dates in your file.

 

Upon notification to the Futurity Secretary by ASR that blood-testing procedures have disqualified a nomination as the offspring of the sire and/or dam as listed on the registration application and that the nomination's conditional registration number is invalid, the owner shall forfeit and return all premium money, trophies, and ribbons to the Futurity Secretary upon request.

 

Foals will be shown at the Illinois State Fair.  For State Fair entry forms, Google - "Illinois State Fair", click on Home Page, then select competitions, then select Premium Books and entry forms.

 

ONLY FOALS ENTERED BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THE ILLINOIS STATE FAIR ARE ELIGIBLE TO SHOW AND ALL FUTURITY FEES MUST HAVE BEEN PAID BY NOMINATION CLOSING DATE.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

ALL PAYMENTS MUST BEAR POSTMARK BEFORE MIDNIGHT OF JULY 1, 2020.
